Compact Fusion Reactors, a Reality?

Could we finally be on our way to an energy source that is both efficient and clean?

This was always just a concept, and some might have considered it Science Fiction (remember Back to the Future when Doc comes back from the future with a flying car powered by a Mister Fusion reactor?)
Well it looks like the people at Lockheed Martin’s “Skunk Works” team has something that looks really promising.
According to the Associated Press,

Lockheed Martin Corp said on Wednesday it had made a technological breakthrough in developing a power source based on nuclear fusion, and the first reactors, small enough to fit on the back of a truck, could be ready for use in a decade.
It’s possible that they could build a 10o megawatt (Nit gigawatt–Sorry, McFly), that would measure about 7 feet by 10 feet, which is about a tenth the size of current reactors.  This could be a great step forward in weaning ourselves from current nuclear energy, coal, and possibly petroleum dependency. Read more about the fusion reactor here.
I for one am keeping my eye on this. What do you think? Comment below, and let us know your “reaction.”
